Purpose Of This Unit Standard
The course is intended for workers that have to operate a Counterbalance Lift Truck. Welcome to this course on the Counterbalance Lift Truck. We hope that the course will be both interesting and useful to you in your working environment. The course is designed for both novice and experienced Lift Truck operators.
Course Content
Learning Outcomes
At the completion of the course, you must be able to:
ASSESSMENT
- Identify and state the purpose of all main components on the Lift Truck
- Be able to understand and explain the basic mechanical principles of the Lift Truck
- Identify and explain the operation of the various controls
- Carry out a walk around checks; start up procedures, shut down procedures as well as refueling procedures on diesel, petrol, LP gas and electric powered Lift Trucks
- Understand the principle of counterbalance, stability and Center of gravity
- You must be able to maintain necessary logbooks, reports or any other relevant documentation as required by his employer.
- Be able to read and understand load charts and capacity plates.
- Be able op access available support systems and emergency services in case of incidents and accidents.
- Travel forward and reverse through a serpentine, confined space gangways as well as a chicane, without hitting any obstacles.
- Be able to raise and lower various loads and place them at low, eye and high level.
- Maneuver the Lift Truck up and down gradients in both forward and reverse.
- Identify various cargo's, estimate their weight able balance points and be able to move them.
- Identify various hazardous substances by means of symbols and pictorial markings
- Be able to state and understand how containers, railway boxcars, trucks and trailers.
ASSESSMENT
- You will be assessed against Unit Standard 242974 which is pegged at NQF level 3 and is worth 7 credits
- You must successfully complete a practical operating test on a prescribed course within a given time.
- Assessment must be carried out to the specified Unit Standard and certificates will be issued to the students who reach the required standard.
- Company Management will be informed of the level of competency of learners immediately after completion of training.
